No Need to Make an Appointment

If you’re a believer and you are reading this you might be a little shaken by what I’m going to say in this post. I urge you to keep reading until the end before passing any judgements.

Stop GOING to the Father and start MEETING with Him.

If you haven’t written me off yet, hold on a little bit longer and hear me out. This is only the tip of the iceberg.

These past 7 weeks I have been taking a course involving deep spiritual healing and intense seeking of Jesus. It has been the most fruitful time of my faith thus far. I have been able to sit with like-minded men and share some of my deepest struggles and challenges in life and simultaneously meet Jesus in the midst of it.

It has not been entirely fun and enjoyable in the most common use of the words, but it has been fruitful and spiritually beneficial. My faith has deepened despite the angst and pain that has come with sharing vulnerably.

Some of the common phrases in Church and life groups is, “go to the Father” or “take  it to Jesus” meaning take your burdens, pain, sorrow, worry, sin or just questions TO them. I can’t stress enough that this is totally correct and biblical and not to stop doing that.

However, one thing that is less common is to meet Jesus wherever you are with your burdens, pain, sorrow, worry, sin or questions.

Galatians 2:20 – “I am crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me.”

For those who profess faith only in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, you have His spirit living inside of you! This seemingly simple change in language can be a big deal. It means that we do not need to go anywhere when we are facing struggles or sin or even joy! We can stand where we are and meet Him.

If we are only running and going to Jesus we can easily be distracted and lose our way. For example, if we fall into a slump or in an area of sin and are told we can only GO TO Jesus questions may arise such as, “when?”, “where?” Instead, we can sit, stop and pray without needing to go anywhere.

The Spirit of Jesus Christ lives within His believers. How unique we are that the Creator of the universe and everything in it chooses to dwell within those who live for and have Jesus as their saviour.

I’m sure almost everyone can think of a time when they got a reminder to go to an appointment or meeting. Sometimes by text or e-mail or even a phone call. My doctor’s office texts me 3 hours before the appointment which helps me plan my day if I forget.

I am hoping that this can be a reminder for someone that you need not make an appointment to go Jesus or meet the Father of the universe. You simply need to sit in silence and acknowledge He’s already here, waiting for you.

Jesus will never leave or forsake us, if we feel distant it is because we have wandered away, not Him. In these cases a conscious decision to GO back to Him is perfect.

In instances where we find ourselves just stuck and we need guidance, seek peace or truth, we don’t need to go anywhere. Just turn and face the Lord…

He is already waiting for you because He lives inside of His people.
